How to Draw Piles

Every once in a while, we will come to a situation where we have to illustrate a large pile of stuff. And the task can be kind of daunting at first. However, if you simplify everything down to just three layers, it suddenly becomes a lot more manageable.

The following demo was one I gave to my class recently. While your pile of stuff can be anything thing, a pile of clothes, a pile of toys, a pile of tools—I chose aspen. As a Colorado native, I’m very familiar with the leaf, and I needed something quick I could draw for the expediency of the demonstration.
