Step 1: Choose an art style
An insatiable curiosity keeps me exploring, keeping my portfolio vast and varied. I have attempted to harness some common trends and themes that keep resurfacing, and thus have organized my portfolio into the following, primarily based on media:
ModNarrative Picture Book Style
Digital Hybrid Style
Black and White Children's Style
Caricature Style
- ModNarrative. It’s real paint on actual board. You know, the old school way. Great for children's books and the non-fiction editorial.
- Digital Hybrid. Pen and ink (or pencil) colored digitally. A uniquely economic style for those with tighter budgets.
- Black and White. Pen and ink and pencil. A great blend of the two media that creates a hybrid look that is quintessential Benjamin J Hummel art.
- Caricatures. There’s a few of them here. It’s a thing I can do.
Everything else we’ll call fine art, but in regards to contract illustration, consider how the above might fit your project.
