From the āWords of Characterā series, I present the word āREST.ā After all of the menās words had been illustrated, I realized I needed two more to fill out a 12 image series. āLIGHTā immediately came to mind, but that final, final word eluded me.
At that time, I was busy teaching part time, wrapping up two childrenās books, finishing up this Words of Character series in time for an art show, and I still was missing one word. I was exhausted, ready to collapse, and I could not think of what that final word should be.
And then it came to me. REST. I needed rest. I needed to work from a place of Godās rest. In our hustle and bustle, we can forget that rest is very important to God and actually comes from Him.
In this image, the man has let go of the hammer, the symbol of work, and is resting in the hammock. We cannot see how the hammock is hanging, and from the reflection in the water, it looks like the clouds, rendered as hands could be holding it in place.
