A New Year, and Some Old Fashioned Fun

I always enjoy New Years as it represents new hope, new opportunities, a chance to reinvent oneself. As you may be aware, 2018 was not kind to me in regards to my health. While the prognosis for the future is questionable, we know where we place our hope and as long as He gives me breath, Iā€™ll continue to create.

Looking back, I created a lot of art during my times of deep pain, art that I used to illustrate the pain and frustration I was suffering. I might pull these out in a future blog post, but the point is, it really was quite cathartic. Art does provide a certain healing, and while it is my profession, Iā€™m glad to share my experiences through it as well.

Lastly, 2018 was a major boom in my advancement as an instructor. I feel I bettered myself as a teacher, studying techniques from others as well as observing what works effectively with me. Even as I could not always be there due to too many hospital stays, I always tried to be as interactive as I could in helping my students learn and grow. I did class demos for every project, and even time lapsed my progress for future benefit. Such is the case for the last project I did in this class, in which I time-lapsed this pencil editorial illustration. I encourage you to watch the video, for it is quite fun (at least I enjoyed creating it) and be sure to turn up the sound to hear the specially selected canned music. ā˜ŗ

Enjoy your 2019. I hope it proves to be a fruitfully creative one for you.
